A Taste of Britain

28 of our students embarked on an exciting language stay in the picturesque seaside town of Sidmouth, England. Over the course of two weeks, they immersed themselves in British culture, practiced their English skills, and experienced the charm of England’s southwest coast. From language classes to coastal hikes, the trip was a good blend of learning and adventure. Here’s a look at some of the impressions from this unforgettable journey.

Sidmouth

Sidmouth is a nice little town. There is a walking path along the coast and a main street with many little cute shops. (Sophie & Flurina, 3mb)
Sidmouth has a beautiful coast with very special red cliffs. On our second day in Sidmouth, we went on a breathtaking coastal walk. We were walking on top of the cliffs and had a great view.  (Emilia & Liv, 3me)

Staying in a host family

It was an amazing experience to stay with our host family. We always played card games together and we had a lot of fun. They really took good care of us for the whole two weeks. (Flavia & Rebecca, 3ma) We felt warmly welcomed and enjoyed our time with our host family. The food was really delicious. It was interesting to experience the daily life and culture of the people in Sidmouth. (Halide, Xheneta, 3ma)

Sidmouth International School

The teachers at Sidmouth International School were really good and their teaching was easy to follow. The classes were fun because there was no grammar, and we really tried to improve our writing and speaking. The school also has a separate building called the Old Exchange where you could play table tennis, pool or just talk to your friends and listen to some music and hang out. (Ahmet, Liam 3mc, Cédric, 3mb)

Fish and Chips at the Balfour Pub

It was a nice experience to try out the traditional food, Fish and Chips, and the pub was really cozy. However, the mushy peas weren't our favorites! Overall, it was a great idea to try it out. (Alessia & Jael, 3me)

Visiting Exeter

We enjoyed the beautiful, picturesque streets of Exeter. There are lovely little coffee shops and the architecture of the buildings, especially the cathedral, was captivating. There was a long shopping street with a lot of nice shops like Urban Outfitters, thrift shops and delicious restaurants. (Aaraniya & Anouk 3md, Mia 2mc)

Visiting Bath

Bath has many beautiful old buildings to discover, like the Roman baths or the circus. The journey there was quite long but it was worth it. (Rachel & Elisa, 3md)

Visiting Knightshayes

On Wednesday, we visited Knightshayes, a Victorian manor house and grounds. The various rooms were impressive, the guides were really friendly and we learnt a lot about the house and the way of life during that period. It had a great and beautiful garden too. We enjoyed the trip.
(Erisa, 3mc & Paricia, 2mc)

Visiting Dartmoor

We visited the beautiful national park Dartmoor, which was filled with wild cows, sheep and ponies. The moor had rocks that you could climb on and you were treated to a beautiful view on top. It’s a mesmerising place, perfect to wander around and explore!

Typically British

We realised that the British love their puns and their typical humour. They put sayings like "Keep calm and drink tea!" everywhere. (Jessica & Natalie, 3ma)
During our time in Britain, we were amazed by the very small streets, which were dominated by the huge buses that had to make their way through the streets. There were also coffee shops everywhere with lots of tasty treats and sweets. (Anna & Elina, 3me)
